titleOfInvention | Polymerizable composition containing tempo compound |
abstract | Polymerizable compositions suitable for impregnation of permeable materials, permeable materials, especially wood and processes for treating impregnated materials are described. The composition comprises at least 60 wt/wt% composition of one or more polymerizable monomers and an initiator effective to bulk polymerize the polymerizable monomers above 50°C. The polymerizable composition is effective to stabilize the composition at temperatures below 50° C. or below its heat-activated polymerization temperature and is 0.5 weight percent effective not to substantially interfere with polymerization above the polymerization temperature. / Contains less than or equal to wt% tempo compound. The treatment process comprises placing a permeable material in the chamber, evacuating the chamber, adding a thermally-initiable bulk polymerizable composition to the chamber, impregnating the material with the polymerizable composition, Removing excess polymerizable composition and performing bulk polymerization of the composition by raising the temperature of the impregnated material in the chamber to initiate polymerization of the composition. |
