The present invention describes an extractive oxidation process for removing contaminants from hydrocarbon streams utilizing an ionic liquid combined with an organometallic ion complex of iron(II), which has an ionic affinity with iron(II) cations. Organometallic iron(II), which is present in the phase of the ionic liquid, is provided with a catalyst of a complex binder, iron(II) and an ionic affinity binder in its molecular structure, the oxidation of which is carried out by an oxidant. It is catalyzed by the complex. In addition to maintaining the selective solvent properties of oxidizing compounds, ionic liquids combining an organometallic complex of iron(II) with a catalytic ionic affinity binder of an oxidizer are reactions that occur in the ionic liquid phase. It has the effect of stimulating the sexual phenomenon and allowing iron to remain stable in the ionic liquid phase without leaching into the oil phase.
