titleOfInvention | Tobacco-derived nanocellulose material |
abstract | The present disclosure relates to cellulosic nanomaterials made from or derived from tobacco and methods for their production. Tobacco-derived cellulose nanomaterials can be utilized in a variety of industrial applications, such as film forming applications and solution thickening techniques. In particular, the present disclosure is directed to a method for preparing tobacco-derived cellulosic nanomaterials with fewer fibrillation cycles than in the production of wood pulp. The present invention is a method for preparing a tobacco-derived nanocellulose material, the method comprising receiving tobacco pulp in a diluted form such that the tobacco pulp is a tobacco pulp suspension at a concentration of less than about 5%; and tobacco pulp. Mechanically fibrillating the suspension to produce a tobacco-derived nanocellulose material having at least one average particle size dimension in the range of about 1 nm to about 100 nm. |
