abstract | Disclosed are administration methods and devices for improving the bioavailability of leukotriene receptor antagonists. The method and device include an oral surface pH oral film dosage form designed to deliver a leukotriene receptor antagonist such as montelukast to the stomach in an amorphous precipitate suspended in an aqueous medium. . Also disclosed are devices and methods for treating diseases such as neurodegenerative diseases or conditions associated with leukotriene-induced neuroinflammation. The device is a film unit dosage form with an alkaline surface pH film layer and a safe and effective amount of montelukast. The device is primarily configured to achieve enteral delivery of montelukast. The method involves enterally delivering a safe and effective amount of montelukast (capable of crossing the blood brain barrier) to a human or animal in need of treatment.
