titleOfInvention | Anti-pneumococcal hyperimmune globulin for the treatment and prevention of pneumococcal infections |
abstract | The present invention relates to compositions and methods for the treatment of infections caused by Streptococcus pneumonia. In particular, the present invention provides human hyperimmune globulin and compositions thereof for preventing or treating pneumococcal infection. The present invention provides a method for producing a hyperimmune globulin containing a high titer opsonophagocytic anti-pneumococcal antibody, a composition containing the opsonophagocytic anti-pneumococcal antibody, and the prevention and treatment of pneumococcal infections. Methods of using the above compositions for are provided. The present invention further provides for the administration of a hyperimmune globulin composition of the present invention (eg, a composition containing a high titer of opsonophagocytic anti-pneumococcal antibody) to an immunodeficient subject by causing pneumococcal infection in the immunodeficient subject. A method for preventing or treating a symptom (eg, upper respiratory tract infection (eg, bronchitis, otitis, sinusitis, etc.)) is provided. |
