The present invention relates to the field of polysaccharides and oligosaccharides and their edible effects. In particular, it relates to a method for producing a branched α-glucan. The present invention relates to a branched α-glucan comprising a linear segment of (α1 → 4) -linked D-glucose units interspersed with (α1 → 6) glucoside bonds and having a (α1 → 4,6) branch point.
