titleOfInvention | Expandable introducer sheath for medical devices |
abstract | The expandable medical sheath may include a sheath body having a lumen extending between a proximal end and a distal end of the sheath. The sheath may have first and second members, wherein the first member has a different modulus of elasticity than the second member such that one provides the sheath with elasticity and the other provides column strength. The first and second members may be joined together as alternating sections to form a tubular sheath; or, along all or a portion of the longitudinal length of the sheath, the stiffer member may be an elastic member. It may be embedded inside. The sheath can automatically transition to the expanded state to allow a larger diameter medical device to pass through the lumen, and after passage, the sheath can automatically return to the original diameter. |
