A process for producing specialty fibers by activating pulp in an aqueous alkaline medium and then reacting it with a water-soluble polyfunctional reagent capable of crosslinking adjacent cellulose chains within a single fiber. The resulting special cellulose fiber has a high intrinsic viscosity and can be used in the production of cellulose ether, cellulose acetate, and viscose. |
