PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a positive electrode active material for a lithium ion battery, which does not aggregate after firing and does not need to be crushed. SOLUTION: D 0.001 is 0.8 μm to 3.0 μm, and D 10 is 2.0 μm to 5, which includes a step 1 of obtaining a mixture and a step 2 of obtaining a calcined product using lithium carbonate as a lithium source. It shows 0.0 μm, 2.0 μm to 6.5 μm for D 50 , 5.5 μm to 12.0 μm for D 90 , and 10.0 μm to 20.0 μm for D 100 , and the formula (1): Li a Ni 1-x. -y Co x M y O b a nickel lithium-metal composite oxide represented by the manufacturing method of nickel lithium metal composite oxide powder.
