abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape having less decrease in output of a servo signal in a servo system. SOLUTION: The magnetic tape has a magnetic layer containing a ferromagnetic powder and a binder on a non-magnetic support, the magnetic layer has a servo pattern, and the refraction measured in the in-plane direction of the magnetic layer. A magnetic tape in which the absolute value ΔN of the difference between the rate Nxy and the refractive index Nz measured in the thickness direction of the magnetic layer is 0.25 or more and 0.40 or less.
