abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an initial setting method of a display device having a configuration and a structure capable of giving a high contrast to a virtual image observed by an observer and being able to act safely in a real environment. SOLUTION: The image display device 100 includes (A) a frame 11, (B) an image display device 100, and (C) a dimming device 700 for adjusting the amount of external light incident from the outside. This is an initial setting method for a display device including the forming device 111 and the optical device 120, in which a virtual image of the test pattern is displayed in the virtual image forming region of the optical device based on the test pattern emitted from the image forming device, and the test is performed. The shading rate of the area of the dimmer corresponding to the virtual image of the pattern is set to be higher than the shading rate of the other areas of the dimmer, and the virtual image of the test pattern observed by the observer and the dimming observed by the observer. The virtual image of the test pattern and the region with high shading rate of the dimmer are relatively moved so that the region with high shading rate of the device overlaps.
