abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously synthesizing a quinolinecarboxylic acid derivative represented by the formula (4), which is an intermediate for producing a quinolinecarboxamide derivative or a salt thereof, or a salt thereof. SOLUTION: Anilines represented by the following formula (1) are reacted with aldehydes represented by the formula (2) in the presence of a boron trifluoride-tetrahydrofuran complex or a boron trifluoride-diethyl ether complex. Subsequently, a method for producing a quinolinecarboxylic acid derivative represented by the formula (4) or a salt thereof, which comprises reacting α-keto acids represented by the formula (3).
