abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas which is chemically stable and has excellent purification performance of methane. An exhaust gas purification catalyst 5 according to the present invention includes a base material 10 for partitioning a cell 12 through which exhaust gas flows, and a catalyst layer 20 provided on the surface of the base material 10. The catalyst layer 20 is extended from the first end 10a, which is the end of the cell 12 on the side where the exhaust gas flows in, to the second end 10b, which is the end on the side where the exhaust gas flows out, and is provided with palladium. A rhodium layer containing a palladium layer 21 and a rhodium layer extending from a second end portion 10b to a first end portion 10a and laminated on both a platinum layer 22 containing platinum and both the palladium layer 21 and the platinum layer 22. 23 and. The Pd layer 21 contains an alkaline earth metal in an amount of 0.04 mol or more and 0.16 mol or less per 100 g of the Pd layer.
