abstract A positive electrode material for a lithium ion secondary battery having excellent input/output characteristics and a high electrode density, a positive electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery containing the positive electrode material, and a lithium ion secondary battery having the positive electrode are provided. A spherical granule comprising secondary particles in which carbon is interposed between primary particles of a positive electrode active material having an olivine structure represented by LixAyMzPO4 whose surface is coated with carbon; and carbon between the primary particles. The average secondary particle diameter of the non-spherical aggregates is smaller than that of the spherical granules, and the mass of carbon is more than 1 to 4 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the positive electrode active material. D90 in the particle size distribution of a mixture of spherical granules and non-spherical aggregates is 4.0 to 22.0 μm, and the cumulative frequency (volume basis) of particles with a particle diameter of 0.5 μm or less is 5 to 50%. and the N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone oil absorption of the mixture is 75 mL/100 g or less.
