The modification of T lymphocytes or other immune cells. SOLUTION: An immune cell, such as a T lymphocyte, can be directed to a target antigen and, when the antigen binds to a polypeptide, proliferates the T cell or kills the cell presenting the antigen. A therapeutic polypeptide, such as a chimeric antigen receptor. The polypeptide comprises a transmembrane domain derived from a T cell co-suppressor protein such as CTLA4 or PD-1.
