Imageable embolic microspheres |
abstract |
The present invention relates to imageable radiopaque embolic beads, particularly for use in monitoring embolization procedures. The embolic beads include an iodine-containing compound covalently attached to the polymer network of preformed hydrogel beads. The beads are prepared by activating preformed hydrogel beads against a nucleophilic attack, followed by covalent attachment of an iodinated compound to the polymer network. The radiopaque beads carry a chemotherapeutic agent and are used in a method of embolizing proliferative tissue or solid tumors. [Selection diagram] None |
