A method of treating cancer in a patient. With respect to the use of genetic mutations, the presence or absence of the mutations is useful in predicting patient response to treatment with antiproliferative agents, particularly WEE1 inhibitors. The presence or absence of mutations to the TP53 gene can be used to predict response to treatment with WEE1 inhibitors in patients who present with a cancerous condition. Specific methods are as follows: 1) at least one base pair insertion or deletion in the TP53 gene that causes a frameshift when encoding one or more TP53 gene mutations or p53 protein in cancer cells, resulting in lack of function. And / or a combination thereof, 2) administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a WEE1 inhibitor and one or more additional anti-cancer agents ,Method.
