A method for identifying a heterogeneous cell population comprising antibody-secreting cells (ASCs) that secretes antibodies that bind to a target epitope is provided. A heterogeneous cell population comprising 10 to 500 cells is retained in a microreactor, wherein the contents of the microreactor include one or more readout particles 412, 413, 414 presenting a target epitope. Further comprising a step of incubating the heterogeneous cell population and the readout particles 412, 413, 414 in the microreactor, wherein the microreactor is substantially isolated from its surrounding environment. Determining whether the antibodies 419, 423 secreted from the ASC bind to the target epitope in the heterogeneous cell population, and, based on the results of the assaying step, determining whether the heterogeneous cell population is targeted.
