Provided is an optical element which can effectively prevent a decrease in durability due to thermal deformation and has a variable transmittance depending on the presence or absence of an external action. An optical element 1000 has a first substrate 100a and a first polarizing layer 200 arranged adjacent to each other, so that a coefficient of thermal expansion coefficient and an elastic coefficient between a substrate, a polarizing layer, and a base layer in a liquid crystal window 300 are increased. The stress generated due to the difference can be minimized, and finally, the warpage of the device and the damage of the sealant supporting the liquid crystal layer can be prevented.
