titleOfInvention | Liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device |
abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: In a conventional liquid crystal display device having a polymer spacer, a polymer network is deposited in a mask region, and the deposited polymer network binds and scatters liquid crystal molecules, thereby increasing a haze due to an increase in haze and the like. This raises the problem of an increase and a decrease in the contrast ratio due to the birefringence effect of the polymer network. Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a liquid crystal set and a liquid crystal display element which can prevent deterioration in the quality of a displayed image at the time of bending, and are excellent in low voltage drivability and contrast ratio. The present inventors have intensively studied and mixed a liquid crystal composition with a chain transfer agent having a low refractive index monomer capable of suppressing an increase in haze and having a function of stopping a polymerization reaction of a polymer. As a result, a liquid crystal display element which can prevent deterioration in quality of a displayed image at the time of bending and has a small haze and an excellent contrast ratio has been found.
