Pneumatic tire having low tear base compound for tire tread |
abstract |
A pneumatic tire having a tread that includes a plurality of sipes extending radially inward in one or more layers of the tread portion is described as having improved sipe tear resistance. Increasing the sipe tear resistance at or near the closed end of the sipe in the tire tread can enhance the performance of the tire during operation and throughout its service life. The rubber composition of the one or more layers of the tread in contact with the sipe or its end contains talc to increase resistance to tearing at or near the end of the running sipe.
