abstract A cooperative road-vehicle communication system enables vehicles and pedestrians to determine their position by sensing selected coatings on roadways, walkways and other pavements in both indoor and outdoor environments . The system recognizes intelligent materials under the sensor to determine geolocation. Intelligent materials are incorporated into road surface paint to mark important locations. In addition, the vehicle recognizes public road paints / indicators and signs with intelligent paint that supports driver information and provides special message content to control the application. Intelligent paint materials include coatings that absorb light and convert the absorbed light into electromagnetic energy. This electromagnetic energy is read by the sensor to recognize the material. The sensors convert electromagnetic energy into processing signals to determine vehicle operating characteristics, including position and motion characteristics, and provide vehicle driving operations. Accurately defined geolocation provides improved pedestrian awareness with improved physical awareness.
