abstract |
Composite granules containing a binder and a polymeric adsorbent material for capturing aldehydes such as formaldehyde are provided. Further provided are methods of making composite granules, methods of capturing aldehydes using composite granules, and compositions formed by reacting composite granules with aldehydes. The polymer adsorbent material contained in the composite granule is a reaction product of a divinylbenzene / maleic anhydride precursor polymer material and a nitrogen-containing compound. This reaction results in the formation of nitrogen-containing groups that are covalently bound to the polymer adsorbent. Aldehydes can react with nitrogen-containing groups. |
