titleOfInvention | Fluorescence assay for the quantification of picolinate and other compounds in oxidizing agents and oxidizing compositions |
abstract | Disclosed is a method for fluorometrically detecting the concentration of chemical constituents in an oxidized formulation. In one particular embodiment, detection is detection of a stabilizing component of picolinic acid present in such a formulation, but any component that fluoresces can be detected. In accordance with the present invention, sample preparation of the oxidation formulation involves adding an excess of reducing agent to the sample to bind to the peracid and, in the case of picolinic acid, adding an excess of terbium chloride to the sample. Including. The sample is then subjected to radiation to induce fluorescence, and the concentration of the chemical component is determined by a linear relationship between the emitted fluorescence and the concentration of the target chemical.
