titleOfInvention | Temperature-dependent adhesion between applicator and skin during tissue cooling |
abstract | The method and apparatus according to certain embodiments of the present invention includes the application of an adhesive to the skin of a subject (patient / human). The applicator is then brought into contact with the adhesive such that the adhesive is sandwiched between the applicator and the subject's skin. The applicator is activated to cool the tissue region through the subject's skin, through the heat transfer surface of the applicator, and through the adhesive. As the tissue region cools, the adhesive also cools, thereby reversibly enhancing the degree of adhesion between the subject's skin and the heat transfer surface and forming a strong bond therebetween. By increasing the degree of adhesion, the applicator moves against the skin. After cooling the tissue area, the adhesive can be warmed to weaken the adhesion and thereby easily separate the heat transfer surface of the applicator from the skin. [Selection] Figure 18 |
