The present invention adapts to various pH environments in the gastrointestinal tract, suppresses urease activity under an environment including an acid and a base (pH 5 to 8), and significantly reduces urease activity at pH 6.8 to 7.3. It is an object of the present invention to provide a buffer composition having multiple pH values that can be suppressed to a low pH. The present invention provides a composition for inhibiting the activity of urease. The composition comprises at least one acid component selected from the group consisting of organic acids, phosphoric acid and combinations thereof, and at least one salt component selected from the group consisting of organic salts, phosphates and combinations thereof. And, ascorbic acid, a urease activity inhibitor selected from the group consisting of salts of ascorbic acid and combinations thereof, wherein the at least one acid component and the at least one salt component are conjugated to each other to form a buffer.
