abstract A red fluoride phosphor that can be produced without using a toxic substance such as hydrogen fluoride and a method for producing a host crystal thereof are provided. A method for producing a base crystal of a red fluoride phosphor includes a step of preparing potassium fluoride as a potassium source and a fluorine source, and at least one of polysilazane, TEOS, SiO 2 and potassium silicate as a silicon source. A step of preparing, a step of preparing a weakly alkaline, neutral, or acidic solution, a step of mixing the potassium source and fluorine source, the silicon source, and the solution, and reacting the mixture with K. 2 depositing SiF 6 . In the step of preparing the solution, an acidic, neutral, or weakly alkaline solution made of a compound other than HF and KHF 2 is used. [Selection] Figure 1
