abstract The present invention provides a bioelectrochemical system in which the processing speed of the entire apparatus is superior to a conventional bioelectrochemical system, and an electrode used therefor. A bioelectrochemical system includes a container, a liquid contained in the container and containing an organic substance and an electron-donating microorganism, an anode disposed in contact with the liquid, and the liquid in contact with the liquid. Or a cathode disposed adjacent to the liquid with a cation permeable membrane interposed therebetween. The anode includes an integrally shaped three-dimensional grid-shaped conductive molding including a grid having a grid interval of 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm. [Selection] Figure 1
