abstract | The present invention provides a novel ring-opening metathesis polymerization catalyst that can be easily prepared from readily available raw materials, and a method for producing a cyclic olefin polymer using the catalyst. The ring-opening metathesis polymerization catalyst of the present invention is a niobium carbene complex containing low-valence niobium having a valence of 4 or less. This catalyst may be a niobium carbene complex having an alkoxy group as a ligand.
