abstract An epifluorescence microscope and a method using the epifluorescence microscope are provided. An epifluorescence microscope 100 includes an image capture circuit 118 that includes an array of photosensors. The optical arrangement 124 directs the excitation light 104 of less than about 1 mW to the target object 114 in the field 126 that is at least 0.5 mm 2 and directs the epifluorescence emission 116 caused by the excitation light 104 to the optical sensor. Configured to point to the array. The optical arrangement 124 and the array of photosensors are each sufficiently close to the target object 114 to provide a resolution of at least 2.5 μm for the image of the field of view 126. The method of using the epifluorescence microscope includes attaching and re-attaching the epifluorescence microscope to the base plate of the support structure to allow accurate microscope alignment.
