Disclosed is a composition for forming a polarizing film that can form a polarizing film that has no missing dots and alignment defects and that has a high degree of alignment order. A polymerizable liquid crystal compound exhibiting smectic liquid crystallinity, a dichroic dye, and at least two kinds of organic solvents, wherein the organic solvent has a temperature of −20 higher than the isotropic phase transition temperature of the polymerizable liquid crystal compound. A composition for forming a polarizing film, comprising: an organic solvent A having a boiling point not lower than 50 ° C. and not higher than 50 ° C .; and an organic solvent B having a boiling point higher than 50 ° C. higher than the isotropic phase transition temperature of the polymerizable liquid crystal compound.
