The present invention provides a method for producing a garnet-type composite oxide powder for sintering suitable for producing a garnet-type transparent ceramic having uniform transparency. SOLUTION: (a) An aqueous solution containing Tb ions, (b) an aqueous solution containing Al ions, and (c) an aqueous solution containing Sc ions are added to the aqueous solution for coprecipitation, and (a), (b), (c). The component is allowed to be coprecipitated, and the coprecipitate is filtered off, heated and dewatered, and then fired to obtain a garnet-type composite oxide powder represented by the following formula (1).
