Sustained release anti-infective agent |
abstract |
To provide a sustained-release anti-infective agent. An anti-infective lipid formulation substantially free of anionic lipids and having a lipid to anti-infective ratio of about 1: 1 to about 4: 1 and an average diameter of less than about 1 μm. Provided. Further provided is a method of preparing an anti-infective lipid formulation comprising an infusion process. Further provided are anti-infective lipid formulations prepared by an in-line infusion process wherein the lipid to drug ratio is about 1: 1 or less, about 0.75: 1 or less, or about 0.50: 1 or less. The invention further relates to a method of treating a patient suffering from a pulmonary infection comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of an anti-infective lipid formulation of the invention. The present invention further relates to a method of treating a patient suffering from cystic fibrosis comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of an anti-infective lipid formulation of the present invention.
