abstract | The present invention relates to a catalyst used in the production of aldehydes by hydrogenating carboxylic acids in the gas phase, and can maintain a high conversion rate to carboxylic acids and selectivity to aldehydes even after a long period of reaction. Useful catalysts are provided. The catalyst of the present invention is a catalyst for producing aldehydes by hydrogenation in the gas phase from carboxylic acids, in which iron oxide covering palladium and palladium as a support are used. Of iron oxide (Fe 2 O 3 ), and the proportion of palladium (in terms of Pd element) is 5 to 30 weights per 100 parts by weight of iron oxide (in terms of Fe 2 O 3 ) contained in the catalyst. And the ratio of iron oxide (converted to Fe 2 O 3 ) covering palladium is 5 to 45% by weight with respect to the total amount of iron oxide (converted to Fe 2 O 3 ) contained in the catalyst.
