Provided is a novel method for treating disorders such as weight loss and lean muscle loss caused by chronic anorexia in non-human animals such as companion animals and domestic animals. A method of treating weight loss of a companion animal selected from dogs, cats and horses, comprising 0.5 to 7.5 milligrams capromorelin per kilogram of the subject's body weight per day. Administering to the subject at least once a day for at least 30 days. The capromorelin binds to growth hormone secretagogue receptors (GHS-Rs) in the hypothalamus of the subject and stimulates the subject's feeling of hunger independent of growth hormone secretion.
