abstract A stent is provided for supporting tissue surrounding a stoma and minimizing the possibility of herniation around the stoma. A method for facilitating stoma formation includes placing a stent in an opening extending through a subject's abdominal wall and accessing an inner intestinal section through the abdominal wall opening.
