titleOfInvention Acoustic window layer for ultrasonic arrays
abstract An acoustic window layer for an ultrasonic array, comprising an inner surface arranged to face the array and an outer surface arranged to face the patient, a thermoplastic polymer selected from a polyolefin system ( TPO) and an outer layer comprising an elastomer (POE) selected from polyolefins mixed therewith, an acoustic window layer comprising an outer layer disposed on the outer surface of the acoustic window layer. In a preferred embodiment, the mixture comprises an ethylene-octene copolymer and polymethylpentene. Thermoplastic polyolefins give the mixture mechanical and chemical stability and low acoustic attenuation while polyolefin elastomers offer the potential to adjust the acoustic impedance of the mixture and further improve its sound propagation properties. .
