Nanostructured iron / carbon to remove oxygen |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a nanostructured composite material containing a mixture of at least one metal particle such as iron and a carbon material from biomass such as D-glucose, D-glucosamine hydrochloride, or a-cyclodextrin. The present invention also relates to a composition comprising a composite material containing the composite material and inorganic salts, and a method for synthesizing the composite material. The method includes the steps of immersing the carbon material in a solution of metal ions, drying the impregnated carbon particles, and subjecting the impregnated carbon particles to a carbothermal reduction process. The nanostructured composite material is useful as an oxygen scavenging layer in a multilayer film that includes an oxygen scavenging layer and an oxygen barrier layer that prevents permeation of oxygen from the external environment.
