abstract In one embodiment of the present disclosure, a process for making a flexible pouch is provided. The process includes placing a capillary precursor element (CPE) between two opposing flexible films. The flexible film defines a common peripheral edge. A CPE comprises an array of pins sandwiched between two opposing polymer strips. The process includes positioning the first side of the CPE on the first side of the common peripheral edge and positioning the second side of the CPE on the second side of the common peripheral edge. The process includes, under a first sealing condition, (i) performing a first seal on opposite polymer strips to form a base material, and (ii) forming the base material into two opposing flexible films. Including sealing. The process includes removing the array of pins from the matrix to form an in situ microcapillary strip. [Selection] Figure 1
