abstract | The present invention relates to a printing plate and a method for producing a polymer-based printing plate from a curable composition comprising a multifunctional urethane in a specific reactive group equivalent range and an initiator. The method comprises coating the curable composition onto a support substrate such as a printing cylinder to form a layer, curing the layer by exposure to heat or actinic radiation, and engraving the resulting cured layer. Forming at least one print cell in the cured layer. A novel polymer-based printing plate having a composition layer based on a cured polymer, which can be engraved by the method, is resistant to solvent-based inks, and is capable of printing gravure quality images. A polymer gravure printing plate is produced. The present invention reduces the time to manufacture gravure cylinders and eliminates the need and disposal of toxic heavy metals such as copper and chromium associated with conventional gravure cylinder manufacturing. |
