titleOfInvention | Silicone-based hydrophilic copolymer and hydrogel composition containing the same |
abstract | A hydrophilic siloxane copolymer of siloxane and a hydrophilic organic monomer. The copolymer can be functionalized to allow further polymerization by thermal or actinic radiation. The hydrophilicity of these polymers can be changed by changing the ratio of siloxane to organic monomer, thereby changing from a water dispersible state to a soluble state. The siloxane content can be adjusted to provide moderate to high oxygen permeability. Such copolymers can be used as single component curable compositions to form hydrogels, minimizing the presence of leachable components and reducing processing costs. The polymer may also find use in personal care formulations as a copolymer, film former, hydrogel, coating, emulsion / latex and others. |
