titleOfInvention | Methods and compositions for identifying non-alcoholic fatty liver disease |
abstract | The present disclosure provides a method for distinguishing between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. The method includes measuring eicosanoid and fatty acid levels in the biological sample. The present disclosure provides a method of distinguishing non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) from non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) in a subject. The method includes obtaining a biological sample from a subject, treating the sample with an alkaline solution to release esterified eicosanoids and recovering the eicosanoid, and at least one esterification in the biological sample obtained from the subject. Comparing the level of eicosanoid with a control sample obtained from a NAFL subject, the difference in the level of at least one eicosanoid in the sample obtained from the subject relative to the control is NASH.
