abstract Provided is a method for producing an isothiocyanate by thermal decomposition of an N-substituted-O-substituted thiocarbamate, which can be produced using a compound that is easy to handle. To do. The present invention relates to a method for producing an isothiocyanate using an organic primary amine and thiourea as raw materials, and reacting the organic primary amine and thiourea to produce a compound having thioureido group and ammonia. Step (A), reacting a compound having a thioureido group with a hydroxy compound to produce an N-substituted-O-substituted thiocarbamate and ammonia, and separating the ammonia; and N-substituted- And (C) producing an isothiocyanate by pyrolyzing an O-substituted thiocarbamate, wherein the hydroxy compound is an aromatic hydroxy compound.
