abstract | A method for producing a fluorene derivative in which impurities such as a sulfur component are significantly reduced and a fluorene derivative obtained by the method are provided. A method of producing a fluorene derivative represented by the formula (1) by reacting a fluorenone derivative with a hydroxyl group-containing arene derivative in the presence of an acid catalyst and thiols. The method in which the thiols include at least one selected from 2-mercaptoalkanoic acid, aminoalkanethiol, and salts thereof.
