A lubricating oil composition is provided that is suitable for use in a direct injection spark ignition engine and that reduces the occurrence of LSPI events. Lubricating oil compositions, methods of reducing low speed pre-ignition (LSPI) in direct injection spark ignition internal combustion engines, and use of lubricating oil compositions to reduce LSPI events in such engines. Preferably, the composition comprises a detergent package comprising a calcium boride detergent, wherein the calcium content of the detergent package is at least 0.12% by weight relative to the weight of the composition, The boron content of the calcium detergent is at least 100 ppm by weight relative to the weight of the composition. The composition may comprise a first detergent comprising a calcium detergent and a second detergent comprising a calcium boride detergent. [Selection figure] None |
