abstract |
An energy efficient system suitable for continuously removing carbon dioxide from indoor air. An electrochemical device suitable for modifying the carbon dioxide concentration in an interior space includes a cathode chamber having an inlet for receiving a supply gas containing carbon dioxide, and reducing carbon dioxide in the gas. A reduction catalyst layer in the cathode chamber forming an ion carrier species, an anode chamber 30 having an outlet for discharging a gas comprising carbon dioxide, and an ionic liquid for transporting the ion carrier species between the cathode chamber and the anode chamber It comprises a solid electrolyte membrane and an oxidation catalyst layer in an anode chamber that oxidizes ion carrier species to form carbon dioxide.
