Gear set |
abstract |
A method is provided for designing a gear set that meets one or more design goals, particularly efficiency. First, the size and ratio of the gear set is identified. A plurality of gear friction coefficients are then calculated and a value for the design goal for the gear set is calculated. One or more macro geometry parameters are modified, and the macro geometry parameters are selected such that the beneficial effects of one macro geometry parameter with respect to the design goal negate any adverse effects of other macro geometry parameters. In this way, a design for the gear set that meets one or more design goals is generated. The efficiency calculation includes the effect of the lubricating oil. Further design goals can include gear noise and gear durability. [Selection] Figure 2 |
