Control of battery state of charge in systems with independent power supplies |
abstract |
A method for controlling the state of charge of a battery is provided. The control system is designed or configured to control the state of charge of the battery or battery pack in a system that includes an independent power source separated from the battery or battery pack. In operation, a battery or battery pack is required to provide power intermittently for certain functions. The independent power source may be a UPS of a vehicle such as a micro hybrid vehicle or an AC power source for an engine. The battery may be a nickel zinc aqueous battery. The control system monitors the state of charge of the battery or battery pack, directs rapid recharging of the battery or battery pack from an independent power source when the battery or battery pack does not perform its function, In response, one or more of a full charge level or directing a charge to a float charge level different from the full charge level is implemented.
