abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing heterobifunctional derivatives of poly (ethylene glycol) or related polymers with high purity and high yield. The present invention can provide an intermediate polymer having the formula W-poly-OH having a removable W group at one end without going through a chromatographic purification step. -OH is changed by first converting the OH group to the first functional group X and then removing W to produce a second hydroxyl group, then the latter hydroxyl group is converted to the second functional group.
