There remains a need for improved compositions and methods for the expression of proteins in cells. In one aspect, the present invention provides a nucleic acid encoding a protein, a therapeutic agent containing the nucleic acid encoding the protein, a method for inducing cells to express the protein using the nucleic acid, The present invention relates to methods, kits, and devices for gene transfer, gene editing, and reprogramming of cells, and cells, organisms, and therapeutic agents generated using these methods, kits, and devices. Methods and products for altering the DNA sequence of cells are described, as well as methods and products for using synthetic RNA molecules to induce cells to express proteins.
